How awe-inspiring is this place! This is none other than a Beit Elohim. - Genesis 28:17 September 08, 2010

Bayit Z’mani: Old Name, New Purpose
When we learned that we would be able to stay in our current building during construction, past President Harriet Warshaw (2006-2010) asked the committee that had been formed to find temporary space to take on the new task of figuring out what to do when there is virtually no parking at the Temple during the construction period.

While there will be very limited parking, there WILL be drop off and pickup at the front entrance, with faculty receiving and delivering small children. So the issues are around the many people who need to park to come to services, programs and classes, as well as the ongoing needs of faculty and staff.

The committee held its first meeting with this agenda in late January. We made a list of all the activities that take place at the Temple from week to week, as well as those unscheduled activities that we could think of. We then brainstormed every possible solution for these, without regard to whether they are feasible. These range from offsite parking within walking distance to offsite parking with shuttle service to rescheduling certain activities to a host of “smaller” ideas.
We are currently gathering more information to try to examine the feasibility of our long list of potential solutions.

We would like the Temple community to know that we are well aware of special issues—safety of our children being paramount—and will work to find the very best solutions to make our Temple accessible and safe during the construction period with as little inconvenience to congregants as humanly possible.

The members of the committee are: Carol Clingan (chair), Katie Block, Lynne Friedman, Wendy Garber, Alison Kur, Terry Chen Rothchild, Risa Shames, Karen Temkin and Nancy Wolk.

Please feel free to contact any of us if you have concerns, questions or suggestions
